Handstand Intensive (25th July – 29th July 2021)

About this format:
During this 3,5 day intensive we will be focusing on inversions of all sorts. We will be incooperating exercises coming from acrobatics and other disciplines such as functional movement, animal locomotion, yoga and dance. Our program is dedicated to all those who want to deepen their understanding in moving in and out of inversions, as well as spending some quality time on their hands, shoulders and heads. While fine tuning your handstand skills in the mornings, we will focus on partner inversions in the afternoons. By including conditioning & mobility, partner acrobatics and therapeutics into our program, we can ensure that everyone finds the right balance between challenge and fun. That said, it doesn’t matter if you’re here to improve your handstand or learn more about hand-to-hand, we believe this is the right training for your summer 2021!

Mornings: After a juicy breakfast and a holistic warm up we will lead you through our first round of skill workshops. In this time we will be sharing helpful exercises such as drills, calibration and progressive exercises with the focus on alignment, correct technique and sustainability. Be ready to learn a lot about your body and its abilities.

Afternoons: After a feasty lunch and a 1.5h break we will gather again for our second skill workshop of the day. This slot is commited to a more playful and explorative environment. We offer 2 tracks, each with a different emphasis on solo or partner inversions.

Evenings: Last but not least, we conclude the day with a nourishing dinner, a therapeutics session to roll out our muscles and a beer on the campfire.

Level & pre-reqs: This retreat is designed to be a multi-level retreat. However, we have 3 pre-requisites to match your participation!

  • Pre-req #1: Come with 2 healthy wrists in order to endure all sessions with a smile
  • Pre-req #2: Submit a video (30sec – 1min) of you practicing any inversions of your choice
  • Pre-req #3: Be ready to immerse yourself into 3-4 hours of being upside down daily

The venue:
With a magnificent view of the Skofja Loka Hills, the Karavanke and the Julian Alps. we will find shelter in a big farm house made for up to 35 people. We also offer 10 camping spots in case people want to be fully immersed into nature. Each room has a bathroom and a shared kitchen. In addition to the peaceful surroundings and fresh air, the certified eco farm (which produces milk and cheese) offers many opportunities for recreation throughout the day.

Dining with us:
We strive to provide local and seasonal food from the eco-farm itself and organic markets around the area as much as possible. Three times a day we will tickle your palate with vegan and vegetarian delights made by our famous barefootyoga kitchen crew.

Andres Covelli

The desire to move every part of my body, the passion to be anything I can imagine, the need to play in life; to stand on my hands and spin on my head, to bend backwards and forward, to roll over like a little kid, to fall over just to get up again. This is how I learnt to live my life. Lover of nature, collector of tattoos, believer of magic and the power of love…. This is what led me to yoga years ago. I wanted to keep the energy flowing and to challenge myself daily.

Andres will be teaching Yoga, Functional Movement and Acrobatics on this retreat.His classes are dynamic and always connected to breath, balance and most important alot of fun!

Gabriel Schüers

Originally from Austria, Gabe loves to spend his time traveling, learning about other cultures and eating foreign food. With a heart full of humor and arms so long he once managed to hug 5 people at once, he is facilitating a wide variety of trainings in Europe and South East Asia. Gabe is well known for his unique and precise way of teaching. His passion for bodywork gives him the opportunity to welcome and embrace people from all walks of life and encourage them to find freedom through movement and touch.

Gabe is the founder of barefootyoga.me and will be therefor hosting this retreat and leading the teachers team. He will be involved with most of the classes and will make sure you take home some epic memories.
Mito FlyingMonkey

Born and raised in Germany, Mito now lives a nomadic lifestyle exploring and teaching movement, acrobatics, Yoga and bodywork. Movement and its diverse effects and qualities have blessed Mito with lots of precious moments, insights and connections. From (re)discovering the joy of play and exploration, to health, power and freedom, to teamwork and social skills, and even to profound spirituality. Now it is also part of his passion to share these experiences.
Teaching Acro at this event, Mito intends to facilitate a holistic, transformative experience of embodiment, where open and sincere experiencing of movement, the self and others can happen in a natural, intuitive and joyful way. A place where the inner child can thrive and shine.

Lorena Schneider

What fascinates her about Acroyoga is its capacity to connect people from all walks and teach them to communicate needs and boundaries through movement within a safe and fun space. Ever since she stumbled across a crowd in the park stacking people on top of each other, she has found herself in a community driven by teamwork, inclusiveness, and mutual support. At the end of the day, the biggest reward for her is to see your beautiful faces when you realize you just achieved something you thought was impossible.

Lorena brings awarenes to communication and expression into her classes and co-teaches a variety of handstand and partner acro to the barefootyoga.me community - we are happy to have her joining us!

Language: This retreat will be taught in English and German (optional)

Beginning & end times of the retreat:
Arrival: Sunday, July 25th 2021 – Your rooms will be available from 4 pm onwards. Around 6 pm we will offer you dinner, followed by a welcome circle with an introduction to our week schedule at 8 pm.

Departure: Thursday, July 29th 2021 – We will conclude our retreat with  breakfast and departure at 10 am the latest.

Early arrivals / late departure:
In case it makes your travel itinerary easier (i.e. cheaper flights) you can book your extra days directly with the farm. Once you have signed up we will send you a PDF with all the information and a contact email of the farm manager.
